Deer Season Update

The estimated deer kill through November 26 is listed below with comparisons to the previous 8 years. As with previous call-in figures, these numbers are estimates based on the number of deer registered (not necessarily killed) in each county and may not represent information from all registration stations. The estimated statewide harvest to date is 11,595. The 2023 statewide total represents a 9% decrease from 2022 at this point in the season but is above the long-term average. Rockingham, Hillsborough, and Grafton Counties, respectively, are showing the highest registrations to date.  Thus far, 59% of deer have been registered at registration stations while 41% have been registered online.

The regular firearm season runs through this Sunday, December 3 with the exception of WMU A where the regular firearm season ran through November 26. The archery season continues through December 15 except in WMU A where it ends December 8. The Thanksgiving Holiday marks the end of many hunters’ efforts for the year and late season hunters can now take advantage of reduced hunting pressure.
