New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Trapping Take by Town 1994/95 to 2003/04 Season

All licensed New Hampshire trappers must fill out an annual report each year providing the NH Fish and Game Department with an accurate count of the number of furbearers trapped by town. These records go back to 1970. The Fish and Game furbearer biologists use the information provided by the trappers to manage the trapping regulations. The biologists have been entering the data each year on maps providing the number of animals by species reported trapped by town. Below is a sample of ten years of those records. Few realize how abundant most of these species are. Trapping has been going on since the early 1600's. With a few exceptions, most of the species are currently more abundant than during colonial times as furbearers continue to be carefully managed by the Fish and Game Department.
